It is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with academic performance, social interactions, and daily functioning. ADHD often begins in early childhood and may continue into adolescence and adulthood. The preprint identifies ADHD among the major pediatric neurological disorders requiring early intervention and long-term management.


Early Signs of ADHD in Children


Parents, teachers, and caregivers should be alert to the following signs:


Inattention

  • Difficulty sustaining attention during tasks

  • Frequently making careless mistakes

  • Easily distracted by external stimuli

  • Forgetfulness in daily activities

  • Difficulty following instructions


Hyperactivity

  • Constant fidgeting or squirming

  • Excessive running or climbing

  • Difficulty remaining seated

  • Talking excessively


Impulsivity

  • Interrupting conversations

  • Difficulty waiting for turns

  • Acting without considering consequences

  • Emotional outbursts


These symptoms must be persistent, occur in multiple settings, and significantly affect functioning before ADHD is diagnosed.


Genetic Insights in ADHD


My Research has shown that genetics play a substantial role in ADHD development. My Research highlights the association of ADHD with genes involved in dopaminergic pathways, which influence attention, impulse control, and behavioral regulation.


Understanding genetic susceptibility emphasizes the importance of:

  • Early developmental screening

  • Monitoring high-risk children

  • Timely intervention programs

  • Family education and support


Impact of ADHD on Children


Without adequate support, ADHD can affect:

Conventional Management of ADHD

While these approaches help manage symptoms, my research notes that many conventional treatments primarily focus on symptom control rather than broader neurodevelopmental support.


Ayurvedic Perspective on ADHD


In Ayurveda, ADHD-like presentations may be understood through disturbances involving Vata Dosha, affecting attention, behavior, and mental stability. My Research discusses two Ayurvedic interventions—Swarnaprashan and Nasya—as potential adjunct approaches for supporting cognitive and neurological health in children.


Swarnaprashan


Swarnaprashan is described as a Medhya Rasayana (cognitive-supportive therapy) traditionally used to promote:

  • Memory

  • Learning ability

  • Cognitive development

  • Immunological support


My Research proposes that Swarnaprashan may influence neurotransmitter regulation and neuroplasticity, potentially supporting children with ADHD.


Nasya


Nasya involves administration of selected medicated formulations through the nasal route. According to my research, Nasya may support:

  • Attention and focus

  • Emotional regulation

  • Neurotransmitter balance

  • Cognitive function


The proposed mechanisms include effects on acetylcholine, dopamine, serotonin, and GABA pathways.


Practical Strategies for Parents & Teachers


At Home

  • Maintain a structured daily routine.

  • Give short, clear instructions.

  • Break tasks into smaller steps.

  • Use positive reinforcement.

  • Encourage regular physical activity.

  • Ensure adequate sleep.


At School

  • Seat the child away from distractions.

  • Use visual schedules and reminders.

  • Allow short movement breaks.

  • Provide additional time for tasks when necessary.

  • Maintain regular communication with parents.


Emotional Support

  • Focus on strengths rather than weaknesses.

  • Avoid excessive criticism.

  • Encourage hobbies and creative activities.

  • Celebrate small achievements.


Future Directions


My Research proposes a multidisciplinary model integrating Ayurveda, Pediatrics, Neuroscience, Genetics, and Modern Diagnostics to explore supportive interventions for neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD. It also emphasizes the need for rigorous clinical trials to evaluate safety, efficacy, and long-term outcomes.


Conclusion


ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects attention, behavior, learning, and emotional regulation. Early identification, parental involvement, educational support, and evidence-based interventions remain the cornerstone of management.


My Research explores the potential adjunct role of Swarnaprashan and Nasya in supporting neurodevelopment and cognitive function in children with ADHD, while acknowledging that further scientific validation is required.
